The Geological Tour of Milos

Witness the majestic nature of Milos! A guided land tour that shows you all the most important things you need to know about the island’s geological history and present.

Our tour starts with the Mining Museum in Adamas (1 hour). Here you will get information about the island’s geological history and the important contribution of the mining industry to the local economy and society.

Next stop, the thermal water springs in Kanava (30 minutes). At certain spots of this beach, the geothermal energy field of the island brings the sea water to a temperature of 50-70 degrees Celsius!

The volcano crater of Kalamos is next on our list (1 hour). Here you will see the half crater that was left intact after the volcano’s eruption millions of years ago and visit the fumaroles of sulphur. They do smell a little bit like egg, but it’s worth the visit!

After that, we visit the Aggeria bentonite mine in the north east of the island (1 hour). This is one of the largest in the world actually, pretty impressive given the island’s small size. On our way back we will pass from the plant of IMERYS at Voudia where you will see the current setup of the leading company in the island’s mining sector.

Lastly, we will stop at world-famous Sarakiniko beach (1 hour and a half). When, millions of years ago, the hot lava met the cool waters of the Aegean sea, the white volcanic rocks of Sarakiniko were formed. Today visitors from all over the world come to admire this unique geological wonder. Truly the place to be, you don’t want to miss this!
